From an all-electric car to a mobile alarm clock, be the first to tell your friends about 2009's most intriguing innovations.

A new year, a new president, a new sense of possibility -- the start of 2009 is a good time to celebrate America's ability to embrace change. In that spirit, we bring you our annual list of innovative products and entertainment to capture your fancy.
Times may be tough, but adversity often sparks creativity. This year's list includes an electric car that promises to get the equivalent of 200 miles per gallon, and a bionic hand to help injured veterans and others live a better life. In a lighter vein, we also include an alarm clock that makes you chase it around the room if you try to go back to sleep as well as a self-cleaning drain trap.
The new year also marks the return of two of TV's most anticipated shows: Fox's "24" (starting this Sunday) and ABC's "Lost" (starting Jan. 21). USA WEEKEND brought together two of the stars to see what they were excited about for 2009.
"I want to see if there truly is a change of direction and spirit that is consistent with what people are feeling now," says Michael Emerson, who plays Benjamin Linus on "Lost." "I'm also curious to see where "Lost" is going because God only knows how it will all look in the end."
Says Mary Lynn Rajskub, who plays computer geek Chloe on "24": "I really want to do more comedy and get going on the next season of "24." Having a new child makes me look forward to building my family ... which is a challenge and a joy."
